3、 Application of FFU and issues requiring attention and maintenance measures
With the development of the economy and the improvement of people's living standards, people's requirements for product quality are becoming increasingly high. Production technology and production environment determine the quality of products, especially in fields with strict requirements for production environment, such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, food, biotechnology, medicine and laboratory, technology, construction, decoration, water supply and drainage, and air purification. The main technical indicators for measuring the quality of production environment in these industries are temperature, humidity, cleanliness, airflow, and indoor positive pressure. Therefore, the reasonable management of various technical indicators of the production environment to meet the requirements of special production processes has become one of the hotspots in clean engineering research.
The cleaning engineering workshop has different levels of requirements according to different usage requirements, such as 10, 100, 10000, etc. Therefore, the cleaning engineering has some difficult problems to overcome, including the fan filter unit (FFU). These issues have been relatively resolved. The following is a partial summary of the author's long-term work for reference.
Using FFU to solve cleaning engineering problems
(1) By using FFU, space can be saved and the problem of limited maintenance space above the cleanroom ceiling can be solved.
High level cleanrooms (such as rooms on the 100th floor) require laminar flow hoods on the 100th or 10th floor to meet process requirements, so a large static air supply box is installed above the ceiling of the cleanroom. Then install the ventilation system in the static pressure box. These static pressure boxes, together with the supply and return air ducts, occupy a large space, reducing maintenance space and in some cases affecting the use of fire exits.
However, when using FFU, the ceiling of the cleanroom is divided into multiple modules, each of which is an FFU, so each module (i.e. FFU) can be adjusted based on the pressure balance of the air supply static pressure box on the ceiling. Therefore, the height requirement for the static pressure box has been significantly reduced. At the same time, it saves installation space by saving a lot of air supply and return ducts. FFU effectively solves this problem, especially when renovation projects are limited by floor height.
(2) The independent structural characteristics of FFU can be adjusted at any time to compensate for the problem of insufficient fluidity in the clean room and solve manufacturing process defects that should not be adjusted.
The maintenance structure of a clean room is usually composed of metal wall panels, and the layout cannot be changed arbitrarily after completion. However, due to continuous updates in the production process, the cleanliness layout of the original factory is new. It cannot meet the process requirements and becomes a clean factory by replacing the product. However, this requires frequent changes and wastes a significant amount of financial and physical resources. Increasing or decreasing the number of FFUs allows you to partially adjust the cleanliness of the room as the process changes. FFU has its own power supply, ventilation holes, and lighting, saving a lot of investment. A purification system with centralized gas supply is almost impossible to achieve the same effect.
(3) The FFU system is energy-saving and solves the disadvantage of centralized gas supply caused by high operating costs of large air conditioning rooms and air conditioning units.
When the cleanliness of a single clean room in a large factory is high, air conditioning units with centralized air supply can overcome the resistance of air ducts as well as the resistance of initial, middle, and intermediate air ducts. It has a larger air volume and a higher fan pressure head. The resistance of high-efficiency filters can meet the cleaning requirements of these rooms, resulting in an overall increase in the operating cost of air conditioning, while the cleaning effect of rooms with higher cleanliness may not always meet the requirements. unlimited. In addition, if the air conditioner malfunctions in the centralized air supply system, all clean rooms related to the air conditioner will be shut down.
(4) Negative pressure seal
The static pressure box of the FFU air supply system is under negative pressure, so even if there is a leak in the air outlet installation, it will not leak from the clean room to the static pressure box and contaminate the clean room.
2 Precautions for using FFU
The abbreviation for fan filter unit is "FFU", which is equipped with a unique blower (shell less fan) and an efficient filter outlet to form an FFU system. The system has a special keel system, booster fan, cooling coil, external air system, and dedicated lights. In other words, combining the fan and filter (high-efficiency filter or ultra high efficiency filter) together forms a terminal purification device that can be independently powered. So far, air intakes (such as high-efficiency filters with fans, automatic cleaners, and laminar flow hoods commonly used in clean engineering) are all a type of FFU. Please pay attention to the following issues when selecting and installing FFU:

FFU fans are typically used in parallel with several or dozens of units. When designing, considering the superposition of FFU noise, the "Code for Design of Cleanroom Equipment GB50073-2001" stipulates that the noise level of a clean room (empty state) shall not exceed 60 dB for non unidirectional flow clean rooms, and the flow and mixed flow in one direction of the clean room shall not exceed 65 dB. (3) Selection of control mode
Currently, FFUs typically use single-phase multi-stage AC motors, three-phase multi-stage AC motors, and DC motors. The power supply voltage of the motor is approximately 110V, 220V, 270V, and 380V. The control methods are mainly divided into the following categories.
(1) Multi level switch control system: This system only includes the speed control switch and power switch that come with the FFU. The control components are built into the FFU and located at various positions on the ceiling of the clean room, requiring staff to use toggle switches to adjust the FFU in real time, which is very inconvenient to control. The FFU wind speed adjustment range is limited to a few gears. The advantages of using a multi-stage switch control method are easy control and low cost, but there are many disadvantages, such as high energy consumption, smooth speed adjustment, no feedback signal, and inability to perform flexible group control.
(2) Continuous speed control: Compared with the multi speed switch control mode, the continuous speed control of this system has an additional continuous speed controller, which can continuously adjust the FFU fan speed while improving motor efficiency. Make it possible, but at a cost. The consumption is even higher than in the multi speed switch control mode.
(3) Computer control: Compared with the previous two methods, this system has advanced computer control method functions. Not only can distributed control be adopted, but centralized monitoring of FFU can also be easily achieved, and FFU can be easily implemented. Single, multiple, and regional control. In addition, the control system can be configured to retain communication interfaces that can communicate with the host or network to achieve remote communication and management functions.
(4) Remote control: The remote control mode of this system is a supplement to the computer control mode. You can use the remote control to control each FFU in the supplementary computer control mode. Some of these control methods should be selected based on the actual situation.
3.5FFU maintenance and management
When using the FFU air supply method, it is usually not a single device, but it is difficult to maintain due to the placement of dozens to hundreds of FFUs on the ceiling. Usually, high-efficiency filters are replaced from clean rooms, but the static pressure box is high enough to block the fan from the inside. If not, the feasibility of fan maintenance should be considered from the clean room. In other words, when using FFU, it is necessary to consider the actual situation in order to maintain its characteristics and achieve the goal of reducing costs.
